Hey guys,

I'm from #Copenhagen, #Denmark, and I'm #newhere. Some of you may know me from #Twitter as @kseistrup.

I'm very keen on #botany and my windowsill is crowded with #plants and #seedlings. An although I don't have a garden [yet]myself, #gardening is also among my interests.

While I won't label myself as #vegan or #vegetarian, I mainly eat plant-based foods. I make #yoghurt several times a week and every now and then I experiment with #fermentation of #vegetables. I ought to pick up #sourdough baking again, but there's a time for everything…

I enjoy #reading good #books or watching #movies — especially #scifi (I'm currently re-reading Richard K. Morgan's “Altered Carbon”, and I can't wait to watch the series on Netflix later this year).

On the #MBTI spectrum I score as #INFP, so it won't come as a surprise to you that #meditation is an important part of my life.

Once an avid #Amiga fan, I now run more than a handful of #Linux machines (all #ArchLinux), and I do most of my hobby programming in #Python. I'm fascinated by #distributed and #decentralized #networking — e.g., #ZeroNet, #MORPHiS, and #cjdns.

I have a feeling that people will be annoyed if I mix #English and #Danish, so unless there's a way of filtering #languages around here I will stick to the former.

I could probably throw in a multitude of other tags in this introductory post, but let's save those for some other time.

I look forward to meeting you guys.

Cheers.

i was an ubuntu user a long time too - but #archlinux was very interesting for me somewhen ... and at some point there was no way back from it <3

Interesting. Tryed to update #vivaldi with #yaourt. Whatever i did the download failed on ~98%. So i used #wget to download it by my self (still ugly internet connection). But yaourt always forced to re-download the package. I am now installing using makepkg -if PKGBUILD. This is working :) #archlinux

Updating projects from gyp files...
/tmp/yaourt-tmp-technics/aur-vivaldi-ffmpeg-codecs/./PKGBUILD: Zeile 37: 32413 Getötet
build/gyp_chromium —depth=. -Dclang=0 -Duse_gnome_keyring=0 -Duse_gconf=0 -Dlinux_use_bundled_binutils=0 -Dlinux_use_bundled_gold=0 -Dlinux_use_gold_flags=0 -Dcomponent=shared_library -Dffmpeg_branding=ChromeOS
==> FEHLER: Ein Fehler geschah in build().

#arch change kernel from linux to linux-libre, follow https://wiki.parabola.nu/Migration but I just add [libre]repository at the bottom and set the mirrorlist to another file instead of overwriting the default one. Bonus: have icecat in official repository and not need to build more than half a hour everytime updating it ;)

Quick start in using xpra – the screen for X

@Arch Linux

1) Start xpraxpra start :12
2) Start a tmux (or screen) session on display 12 and start a xterm$ DISPLAY=:12 tmux
$ xterm

3) Connecting from another computer to xpra$ xpra attach ssh:user@example.com:12
There pops it up your xterm and any other program you've started in this session.

I have a #bash script that prepares the content for my #diaspora and #pumpio #APOD bots (apod@pod.jpope.org and apod@pump.jpope.org). For one part of the script, it is basically this:
$ curl -s http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap150706.html|grep -a '<title>'|awk -F'<title> ' '{print $2}'

which returns: APOD: 2015 July 6 - Colorful Clouds Near Rho Ophiuchi

Something changed in the July 7 entry that I can't seem to 'fix':
$ curl -s http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap150707.html|grep -a '<title>'|awk -F'<title> ' '{print $2}'

which returns: APOD: 2015 July 7 The Milky Way from a Malibu Sea Cave

The "-" was replaced with "–" and the curl output spits out "" instead of "–". The bash script calls diaspy to do the actual post to D* and it returns this error:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/home/jpope/bin/diaspostapod", line 10, in <module>
stream.post(message.read())
File "/usr/lib/python3.4/codecs.py", line 319, in decode
(result, consumed) = self._buffer_decode(data, self.errors, final)
UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf-8' codec can't decode byte 0x96 in position 21: invalid start byte

And as well, the pumpio post is a little jacked up: https://pump.jpope.org/apod/note/wdVwXpydQfeT2iphkn2rhA and was even more jacked up before I added the -a flag for grep: https://pump.jpope.org/apod/note/wAyYP0PjQoODo8L8vzIeHw.

The problem starts with the curl output and some web searches hasn't pointed me in the right direction in correcting it. Also, this has been tried on #Archlinux, #CentOS and #Ubuntu based #LinuxMint with the same results.

Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Pomodoro for GNOME works

One of my favorite tools to get myself to work is the #pomodoro technique. Some months ago the pomodoro #extension for #GNOME didn't work anymore, so I just waited and now: It works again!

I installed the tool through #AUR (Arch User Repository). The #archlinux package is called gnome-shell-pomodoro. The main website is: http://gnomepomodoro.org/

Have a nice day and don't work too hard ;)
